A Mighty Squared Noteworthy Retrospective

Back in the spring of 1995...
My second cousins, David and Jason, surprised me with a ticket to see the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Honkeyball and Showcase Showdown at the State Theater in Portland, ME. The show affected me in an over-joyous, euphoric way. Pure and simple. Hearing Dicky Barrett’s smoke-tarnished howl for the first time produced a serotonin ultra burst that likely rivals that experienced by Columbus back in 1492. It was a profound discovery- a brush with Utopia, a revelation. It was an introduction to rock 'n roll music- an experience that every 14 yr. old pubescent shit should withstand. At show’s end, I stumbled out onto Congress Street with wide eyes and a rigid swell below the belt. It laid, the show not my anatomy, a musical foundation that would be reinforced and fortified throughout my adolescence and into manhood. This particular event was an integral force behind the person I am today. It was not my first concert (NKOTB- Worcester Centrum early 90s), although it was the transcendental powwow that blew my mind as well as my load. It was the kind of cosmic event that opened my heart to the juggernaut that is live music.
